Camp Talahi Retreat and Nature Center

First Congregational Church, UCC of Romeo has a private donor who has generously offered to double the power of your donation when you give $1 per member of your church! We hope your church will take up the challenge. Your donation will help reopen Camp Talahi and keep it alive and well for generations of campers! Read the letter…

This letter is going out to all UCC churches this week:

Good Morning,

My name is Mike Willenborg. I am with First Congregational Church, UCC in Romeo and also represent Camp Talahi Retreat and Nature Center (CTRNC).

You may have heard that the Michigan Conference closed camp several years back, and have sold the property to the DNR. It is true. HOWEVER, the DNR has agreed to lease the property back long term to the group incorporated as CTRNC.

It is made up of ministers from UCC churches here in Michigan and a group of the young adults that ran camp when it was a UCC camp. It will once again be a place to send kids from all the UCC churches here in Michigan for a great camping experience. It is reopening as a Religious camp this May, and we are asking for your help with the start up costs. There is a lot of work to do before it will be ready in the spring.

I am only asking for one dollar from each of your members that is in a position to give one dollar. . YES JUST ONE DOLLAR.

If you could please find it in your heart to ask someone to stand up during announcements each Sunday for 3 or 4 weeks and tell our story above, and ask for only one dollar from each member sitting in the pews, we would be VERY grateful.

First Congregational Church, UCC in Romeo has a private donor that has stepped forward and offered to match the first $10,000 raised by this program! !

If you respond to this email, I can send you some thank you cards to distribute to those folks who can spare a buck for us.

I will also forward you the information on where to send the donations (First Congregational Church, UCC in Romeo), or please call the church office at 586 752 3661. They will hold the donations until Jan 31, then match what has come in up to $10,000 and send it to CTRNC.
