Health Officer

Reports to:
Executive Director and Program Director

Details and Compensation:
Position is seasonal, June-August. Employment is at will. Salary depends upon experience.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Health Officer is responsible for the health and safety of all campers and camp personnel.

Skills and Experience:
Must be at least 19 years of age.
High school education or equivalent.
Previous experience preferred. Have or be working toward a nursing or medical degree preferred.
Emotional stability and an a capability of making good health judgement.
Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
An ability to assess and communicate information to staff, campers, and parents.
An ability to work effectively in a team context, contributing to team process.
Current Red Cross Lifeguard Outdoor Wilderness Certification.

Specific Responsibilities for Health Officer:
Check in and check out campers during all sessions. Check medical forms and physical condition of all campers upon check in.
Keep accurate and detailed record of all persons on site including illnesses, injuries, and treatment given with time, date, and description.
Notification of parents in case of illness or injury.
Perform first aid or emergency care when necessary or until emergency crew arrives.
Dispense medications to staff and campers at proper times.
Responsible for overseeing campers’ water consumption as necessary.
Work as a team with other site and program staff.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of health office.
Order and maintain inventory of all necessary supplies.
Be alert to regulations pertaining to safety and report and problems to Executive Director.
Complete all necessary injury reports.
Report to Camp Director and Executive Director any concerns of a camper’s health, safety, or well-being.
Communicate and enforce all Camp Talahi regulations in a professional manner.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.

A person with the ability to be on site 24 hours a day when campers on site during the term of employment.
